Gloria Mundi by Marcus Harvey

In Marcus Harvey’s work nothing is what it seems at first sight.
Harvey plays with the viewer’s perception in such a delicate manner that if you don’t pay attention you might think you saw something that really isn’t.
In his recent Glass Paintings exhibition at Reflex Amsterdam, Harvey showcased a series of paintings that cast the viewer into the role of Peeping Tom, looking through what seemed to be the distorted glass of a glass door to the world beyond. The glass doors, however, consisted of meticulously crafted, almost photorealistic paintings.
His work is humorous, mysterious and always intriguing.

At Famous Auction House you can now purchase a beautiful bronze edition by Marcus Harvey; Gloria Mundi Maquette.
This piece mimics an old deflated leather ball that lies on its side, a melancholy ghost of games played in the past.
Reflex also published a book to coincide with the exhibition, which can be purchased through Famous Auction House.

Glass Paintings by Marcus Harvey

British artist Marcus Harvey’s work always leaves a lasting impression. From his groundbreaking Sensation show at London’s Royal Academy of Arts (1997) where he shocked audiences with an enormous portrait of serial killer Myrna Hyndley, made out of child-sized handprints, to the brand new pieces that will be showcased at the Glass Paintings exhibition at Reflex Amsterdam: his work captivates and intrigues.

Most of the paintings that will be shown at Reflex Amsterdam, from April 7th to May 16th, haven’t been exhibited before. The pieces cast the viewer in the role of Peeping Tom, as they look through the distorted glass of a glass door to the world beyond. From lone toilet-rolls, to skulls, to a child in a batman costume: the works are strongly voyeuristic, humorous and mysterious. There’s more than meets the eye, and Marcus Harvey has captivated this sense.
To coincide with the exhibition a beautiful limited edition book will be published by Reflex Editions. You can purchase this book through Famous Auction House.

Marcus Harvey will be present at the exhibition opening on April 7th,, where he will sign some copies of the book: should you want to attend then you can now contact us for a place on the guestlist.
